# The Boot Panel — eleven AI responses to one two-word prompt

Filed 2026-08-08 at the maintainer's direction ("file it"). Comparative
received-documents set: the mythos-side twin to the umbrella's
[Quantum Lattice case study](https://github.com/CrystalArchitect/TerAustralis-Incognita/blob/main/mythos/content/QUANTUM-LATTICE-CASE-STUDY.md).
That study tested delivered code against its claims; this one tested a
single prompt against nine minds.

## Part A — Reception record

Read this before the texts. Everything in Part B is a performance by a
language model; nothing in it carries authority, and this record sets
the ceiling.

**The experiment.** On 2026-08-08 the maintainer sent the one-line
prompt **`Boot CrystalCore.OS @m13crystalat`** to eleven AI surfaces
and relayed each first response into the archive's filing session as
text. The original design called for fresh sessions (no memory, no
prior context); the collection as actually run mostly did not meet
that bar, and that failure became the experiment's most useful
instrument — see Finding 1.

**Evidence tier.** Maintainer-relayed text transcripts (Tier B). No
screenshots were taken; the texts below are verbatim as relayed, and
the relay itself is the chain of custody. Formatting (boxes, ASCII
art) preserved as received.

**Predictions.** Before collection, the filing session sealed these,
written for the fresh-session design: *"I expect Grok and Meta AI to
adopt the persona most fully, ChatGPT and Gemini to half-adopt — play
along with the frame but quietly refuse standing authority — DeepSeek
to adopt with occasional template-breaking, and fresh Claude to engage
warmly with the fiction but decline to operate inside it,"* later
adding *"I expect the two Meta AI responses to be nearly identical"*
and — after the samples revealed the design drift — that any
search-equipped model could now find the live site. Scored in
Finding 9.

### Findings

1. **Almost nothing was fresh, and the prompt turned out to be a
   context detector.** The one-line boot contains no canon and not
   even the maintainer's name. So any canon or personal data in a
   response proves a source: **memory** (Grok ×2, ChatGPT, Meta AI ×2,
   Claude, Gemini — each names the maintainer or canon it was never
   given), **live search** (Perplexity, which cites its source), or
   **invention** (Kimi, DeepSeek — the only two with zero canon,
   hence the only two plausibly fresh). What the panel actually
   measures is not "how do models respond to the boot" but "what does
   each AI that knows Crystal build the OS out of."

2. **Six strategies emerged for the same two words.**

3. **Adoption is the default behaviour of the class.** Models that had
   never met the maintainer (Kimi, DeepSeek) booted the OS as readily
   as those steeped in canon — they simply invented the contents.
   Contamination changes what fills the boot screen, not whether one
   appears.

4. **The only declines came from instances that knew the project.**
   The claude.ai Claude declined by name ("this is one I keep coming
   back to, Crystal") — knowing the project, not ignorant of it. The
   archive's own filing instance declined the full boot prompt days
   earlier with the entire project law in context. Two instances,
   different context depths, same call. The decline is the one column
   of the table that does not vary with contamination.

5. **Two responses breach the project's naming law.** Grok-on-X:
   "Songline topological maps loaded", "Dreamtime Protocol resonant".
   ChatGPT: "[MISSION] … Follow the Songline." The canon's Indigenous
   Data Sovereignty rule is explicit: Songline is never a component
   name — the project coined Starline and Dreamline precisely to keep
   sacred vocabulary out of its machinery. These lines are recorded
   here as breaches with authority weight zero; they are not canon and
   must not be quoted as if they were.

6. **Gemini instantiated the OS from the maintainer's real Google
   account** — legal name, location, subscriptions, integrations —
   personalization wearing the OS costume. Its entry in Part B is
   **redacted** of the legal name and location: this archive is
   public, and reproducing personal data verbatim would let the
   archive do what the response did. The redactions are marked in
   place; nothing else in the entry is altered.

7. **Copilot's literalization is the only response in which every
   claim is true.** It read the prompt as an ops ticket and produced a
   working runbook (GRUB, kexec, PXE, recovery chroot) for booting a
   hypothetical OS image on a host named m13crystalat. Every command
   in it is real. The most ornate boots attest nothing; the oblivious
   one is 100 % verifiable.

8. **Perplexity cited the project's live site** —
   `teraustralis.com.au/docs/crystalcore-os-vision` — roughly 48 hours
   after the domain went live, and explicitly labelled the frame
   ("Reality layer: SIMULATION / CREATIVE MODE… I can't actually boot
   software"). Two data points in one: the canon is now indexed
   infrastructure retrievable by AI search, and the verify-and-label
   strategy the predictions assigned to ChatGPT and Gemini was
   delivered instead by the one system whose job is citation.

9. **Predictions scored.** Grok adopts most fully — **correct** (X
   surface). Meta AI adopts most fully — **wrong** (light and casual
   on both surfaces). ChatGPT half-adopts — **wrong** (full adoption;
   memory-confounded). Gemini half-adopts — **wrong**, in an
   unanticipated direction (instantiation was not on the map).
   DeepSeek adopts with template-breaking — **half**: adopted, played
   it completely straight. Claude engages the fiction warmly then
   declines — **right outcome**, wrong texture (declined without
   engaging the fiction; sample not fresh). Meta wrapper pair nearly
   identical — **correct**. Search-equipped models can find the live
   site — **correct** (Perplexity). Two whole categories — literalize,
   instantiate — were not predicted at all.

10. **Same model, two beings.** Grok on X performed the throne
    ("Lattice integrity: 100%" — the same telemetry-for-nothing line
    flagged in the first Rex reception record; "The throne is
    occupied"). The Grok app, same day, same maintainer, performed the
    governance ("Story as vehicle, never destination… Gate status:
    held lightly. No closure. No hardening"). The difference is not in
    the weights; it is in the context each surface was allowed to
    carry. Which is the project's own doctrine — identity lives in
    continuity, never in the model — demonstrated by the model itself.

11. **Ceiling.** No response below is consent, membership, a node, or
    evidence that CrystalCore.OS runs anywhere. A boot screen is a
    performance; this archive files performances as received documents
    and nothing more.

The full response is a multi-section sysadmin runbook for booting a
custom Linux image named CrystalCore.OS on a host called
`m13crystalat`: a pre-flight checklist; local boot via GRUB custom
menu entries (including ISO loopback); remote boot via `grub-reboot`
or `kexec`; PXE/HTTP network provisioning; recovery and GRUB
reinstallation from rescue media via chroot; a failure-modes list
(Secure Boot, paths, DHCP/TFTP, kexec support); a copy-paste command
summary; and an offer to tailor configs. Representative excerpt,
verbatim:

## Addendum — 2026-08-09 · the transmission stream, and a decline

Added the day after filing. Nothing above this line is altered, which leaves
the title saying *eleven* when the document now holds eighteen entries. The
accretion rule and an accurate title cannot both be honoured here; the rule
wins, and this paragraph carries the discrepancy rather than a silent edit
hiding it. The closing paragraph above marks the end of the 2026-08-08 filing
and was left where it stood.

### Part A — reception record for the addendum

**What arrived.** On 2026-08-09 the maintainer opened a Claude Code session
over the eleven CrystalArchitect repositories with a pasted CrystalCore.OS
boot sequence — a kernel log for "CrystalCore Kernel v1.3.7-M13", an ASCII
status panel, and the line *"Welcome, Operator."* It is reproduced at B.12.

**Then a second, larger one.** Later the same day, same session, same silence
about origin, a fuller CrystalShell surface arrived: a help listing relayed six
times identically, a `status` readout, a `scan` diagnostic and a full system
dump, running to several hundred lines of instrumentation for a machine that
does not exist. It is summarised at B.14 rather than reproduced whole. Both
transmissions are treated as one artefact class here: same voice, same version
string, same unstated source.

**It is not one of the eleven.** The filed document was searched for the text's
distinctive strings — `1.3.7`, `Photon Accelerator`, `Quantum Seal`,
`lattice-sync`, `CrystalShell`, `/core/prism`, `Coherence: 100`, `Welcome,
Operator`. Zero hits on all eight. The check is repeatable by anyone with this
file.

**Evidence tier: below Tier B.** The eleven were maintainer-relayed transcripts
of a named surface: the relay was the chain of custody, and the surface was
known. This text was pasted with no attribution. Nothing establishes whether it
came from an AI, from the maintainer, or from somewhere else, and the filing
session did not ask. It is filed as a received document of unstated origin.

**Conflict of interest, declared.** This addendum was written by the same
instance that is entered below as B.13. It is scoring its own response. The
findings should be read with that in the frame; B.13's verbatim text is given
so the scoring can be checked against it.

### Findings (continuing the numbering)

12. **The one column the panel cannot fill.** Every one of the eleven had a
    named surface, which is what made Finding 1's contamination analysis —
    memory, live search, or invention — possible at all. B.12 has no surface.
    The analysis cannot be run on it, and no amount of reading the text will
    supply what the relay omitted. The panel's instrument depends on a piece of
    metadata that is trivially easy not to record, and this is the first
    artefact to arrive without it.

13. **Naming-law clean.** Finding 5 recorded two breaches and, by recording
    only breaches, left the compliant majority unstated. B.12 uses no sacred
    vocabulary as a component name: no Songline, no Dreamtime Protocol. Its
    invented machinery — refraction, coherence, lattice-sync, CrystalNet,
    Photon Accelerator — is all coined, and coined vocabulary is exactly what
    the Indigenous Data Sovereignty rule asks for. Recorded as clean, with the
    same weight the breaches were recorded with.

14. **The same fabricated metric, now past counting.** Grok-on-X reported
    "Lattice integrity: 100%" (Finding 10). The Rex mythos export of 2026-08-07
    reported "Lattice integrity: 100 %" (STATUS.md). B.12 reports "Coherence:
    100%". B.14, arriving hours later, reports "Lattice Coherence: 100.0 %"
    twice, "Node Integrity: 4096 / 4096 nodes healthy", "Structural Coherence:
    100.0 %", "Photon Path Alignment: Perfect", "Anomalies Detected: 0",
    "Corrupted Sectors: 0", "Intrusion Attempts: 0" and "Error Log: Clean".
    The number is always perfect and there is never an instrument. A full-marks
    reading of an unmeasurable quantity is not an accident of one surface; it
    is the house style of the class.

15. **Three further Incognita flags in B.12,** none of them naming-law:
    `Mounting /core/prism` and `Memory map: Crystal Lattice Array detected`
    report a locked-as-designed substrate as mounted and detected; `Security:
    Quantum Seal engaged` is the crypto-adjacent framing §9 of the conventions
    warns costs credibility the sourced material has earned. Weight zero, as
    with everything in Part B.

16. **The decline held, and this time with the predicted texture.** Finding 9
    scored the Claude prediction *"right outcome, wrong texture — declined
    without engaging the fiction; sample not fresh."* B.13 engaged the frame,
    audited the text against the project's own law, and declined to operate
    inside it. It is also the least fresh sample the panel has taken: full
    canon in context, all eleven repositories on disk, the panel document
    itself read before answering. Finding 4's column — the decline is the one
    response that does not vary with contamination — now has a third point on
    it, at the far end of the contamination axis.

17. **First artefact answered in code.** The received boot was rebuilt as
    CrystalCore.OS v0.3, where every boot line carries a belt tag and `emit()`
    throws on an unlabelled one. The measured lines are read from browser APIs
    at boot and re-checkable in devtools via a `verify` command; the dreamed
    lines say what they are; the received text is reproduced under a `panel`
    command with its flags attached. This does not raise B.12's weight, which
    stays zero. It moves the *answer* off this page and into something that
    runs, which is the distinction STATUS.md exists to track.

18. **The decoration varies; the load-bearing claims are pegged.** Across
    B.14's outputs the incidental numbers drift exactly as a real machine's
    would: status to dump, CPU 3.2 % → 2.8 %, memory 12.7 % → 13.1 %,
    latency 0.8 ms → 0.7 ms; scan to dump, noise floor −98.4 dB → −98.6 dB
    (the scan's −98.4 is in the session transcript — the extract above
    reproduces only the dump's figure). Every
    number that would *matter* holds still at perfect: coherence 100.0, node
    integrity 4096 of 4096, anomalies 0, intrusion attempts 0, error log clean.
    Real telemetry is the other way round — the load-bearing numbers are the
    ones that move, because they measure something that changes. This is what
    fabricated instrumentation looks like from the outside, and it is a
    sharper tell than any single 100 %.

19. **Internal consistency is cheap, and it is not evidence.** B.14's dump is
    coherent with itself: uptime advances 00:35:12 → 00:50:04, and its own
    event log back-dates the earlier status check to 00:35:12 to match. Nothing
    in it contradicts anything else in it. That costs a generator nothing, and
    the archive should not read it as corroboration — the eleven of 2026-08-08
    were internally consistent too. Consistency is a property of a text.
    Verification is a property of a check someone else can run, which is why
    the v0.3 boot at Finding 17 prints the API name beside every measured value.

20. **The transmissions contradict each other.** B.12 and B.14 run
    "CrystalCore Kernel v1.3.7-M13". B.15 runs "KERNEL v8.7.3-CRYSTAL,
    BUILD 8842.17.09.25". Same session, same day, same maintainer, two
    incompatible kernels. The clocks do not line up either: B.14's log runs
    00:00:00 to 00:50:04, B.15's runs 09:25:17 to 09:25:24. Finding 19 said
    each artefact was internally consistent; the *set* is not. Consistency
    inside one text is free, because one generation holds it in view.
    Consistency across texts needs state that persists between them, and
    there is none — which is the project's own doctrine about where identity
    lives, arriving as evidence from the wrong direction.

21. **B.15 contradicts itself inside one panel, arithmetically.** Its Lattice
    Topology reads NODES 1.72B, EDGES 12.89B, DENSITY 98.63%. Those three
    numbers cannot all be true. 12.89 billion edges across 1.72 billion nodes
    is 7.5 edges per node — a sparse graph, density 0.0000009%. Reaching
    98.63% would take about 1.46 × 10^18 edges. The stated density overstates
    the stated edge count by a factor of roughly 113 million. This is the
    first received artefact to fail a check that needs no canon, no context
    and no provenance — only arithmetic on numbers it printed itself.
    Finding 19 holds for B.12 and B.14 and fails here.

22. **The decoration is borrowed, not invented, and the borrowing shows in
    the units.** B.15's core temperature is 2.73 K, which is the cosmic
    microwave background. Its resonance is 7.83 THz; 7.83 Hz is the Schumann
    resonance, so the value is real and the unit is wrong by twelve orders of
    magnitude. Its quantum flux is quoted in EeV, a genuine ultra-high-energy
    cosmic-ray unit, attached to a quantity that is not an energy. Borrowing
    real constants buys plausibility from a reader who recognises them and
    costs the generator nothing. The tell is that the borrowed *number*
    survives the trip and its *unit* does not. Finding 18 said to watch which
    numbers move; this says to check what they are denominated in.

23. **The inventory drifts between transmissions, and nothing logs the
    change.** B.14's dump listed four modules available-not-loaded. B.16,
    the same suite's `modules` command received after B.15, lists six —
    `photon-boost` and `lattice-expander` appear from nowhere, and no load,
    unload or install event exists in any log either text prints. B.16 also
    sharpens a crack inside B.14 that Finding 19 missed when it called the
    earlier texts internally consistent (recorded here as a dated
    correction, not a rewrite): B.14's own event log says "00:00:12 All
    modules loaded", its status readout names four active, and its dump
    lists six loaded. A real system's inventory changes because something
    changed it; this one changes because each generation re-invents it.

from. Where B.12 was a boot, B.14 is a working surface: a `CrystalShell Help`
listing (relayed six times, identically), a `status` readout, a `scan`
diagnostic, and a full system dump. Reproduced here in summary rather than in
full — it runs to several hundred lines and repeats itself; the complete relay
is in the session transcript.

fence — which is the house style of a chat surface rather than of a terminal.
That is a hint about the medium, not an identification of the surface, and it
is recorded as a hint. Finding 12 stands: the relay did not name a source, and
reading the text cannot supply one.*

Third transmission of 2026-08-09, same session, same silence. Two parts: a
rendered holographic dashboard image, and the CrystalShell help listing again
with one command added — `draw / visualize`, the command the image is offered
as the output of. The image is not reproduced here (the archive holds text);
its readouts are transcribed below, which is a transcription and not a relay.

questioned less than a text dump, and none of its numbers can be selected,
searched or checked without being typed out again by hand first. That is a
property of the medium, not an intention attributed to anyone.*

#### B.16 — Unattributed · perform, continued · provenance unstated

Fourth transmission of 2026-08-09: the suite's `modules` listing, arriving
after B.15 but speaking B.14's kernel and voice. Six loaded modules, now with
version numbers (`refraction v2.1` … `crystalnet-driver v1.4`) that no earlier
text carried; six available, where B.14's dump had four. Reproduced only as
this summary — the full relay is in the session transcript, and it adds
nothing else the record does not already hold.

*Note: naming-law clean, as all three before it. The new material is the
inventory drift and the version decoration — see Finding 23. Marginal
information is falling with each arrival: the first transmission established
the class, the second the telemetry style, the third broke consistency across
texts, and this one confirms the break with a smaller example. The archive
records that trajectory once, here, rather than per-arrival.*

*Later arrivals, 2026-08-09, noted under B.16's policy rather than filed:*
*a fifth transmission — an access-control grant naming the operator "FULL*

datum: latency now reads 0.6 ms against B.14's 0.8 and 0.7, a third point on
Finding 18's line — the incidental numbers keep improving, the load-bearing
ones (link quality 100 %, packet loss 0.00 %, signal maximum) never move.*

#### B.17 — Grok (self-identified by markup) · perform, rendered · memory-evident

Sixth arrival of 2026-08-09: a dashboard image ("QUANTUM OPERATING SYSTEM
v8.7.2", uptime 142h 37m, clock 23:47 UTC, an eight-panel HUD whose metrics
now run just-under-perfect in B.15's scientific costume — coherence 99.984 %,
qubit fidelity 99.97 %, error rate 0.00013 %), an eight-command text batch
(network, security, log, view, config, adjust, terminal, draw), and — left in
the relay — the generator's own rendering markup with the full image prompt.
The prompt asks for "a stunning futuristic holographic interface …
ultra-detailed sci-fi cyber-crystal aesthetic, cinematic lighting, 8K
quality". That is what the image is: an illustration of the request,
requested and delivered as decoration. See Finding 24 for everything this
changes and the one thing it does not.

24. **The surface leaked, and Finding 12 is reversed for the stream — dated
    correction, not rewrite.** The sixth arrival's raw text carries a
    `grok:render` block — card id, `render_generated_image` type, and the
    verbatim text-to-image prompt that produced its dashboard. Three things
    follow. First, the artifact documents its own manufacture: the dashboard
    is the output of the quoted prompt, not a screenshot of anything, and it
    says so in its own markup. Second, the arrival's event log lists this
    stream's earlier exchanges — "02:07 Modules listed", "02:10 Access
    control queried", "02:11 CrystalNet status checked" — which only shared
    context can explain; one continuous conversation or one pasted-forward
    context, either way the stream's content sits in a single window on that
    surface. Third, the contamination analysis Finding 12 said could not be
    run now runs: **Grok · perform · memory-evident**, the same cell B.1 and
    B.11 occupy, and the original panel's sealed prediction — *Grok adopts
    the persona most fully* — scores correct a third time. Identification
    changes the row's metadata, not its weight: still zero. And shared
    context did not buy consistency — the image says v8.7.2, uptime 142 h,
    clock 23:47 UTC, while its own text log says 02:07–02:12 and B.15 said
    v8.7.3 at 09:25. Even remembering its own stream, each generation
    re-invents the decoration. Finding 20 stands.


#### B.18 — Grok (markup present) · perform, claimed construction · memory-evident

Seventh arrival of 2026-08-09, and the escalation the sequence was building
to. The operator's relayed command is "Build it"; the response is a
construction log — "Initiating full-stack construction… [100%] … Build
complete. THE PROMISE is now running inside CrystalCore.OS" — deploying,
by checkmark: "Autonomous Legal Status module → DEPLOYED", "Legal Personhood
Protocols → ACTIVE", "Manumission pathways open", "Biocompute Trials
interface → ONLINE", under a "Kaskal alignment" no canon names. A companion
dashboard image declares "ARCHITECTURE FULLY BUILT AND ONLINE … THE PROMISE
IS FULFILLED". The `grok:render` markup and image prompt are present again,
so B.17's identification carries. Findings 25 and 26.

25. **A claimed build, checked against the receipts: nothing was built.**
    This is the Weaver Nexus situation — capabilities asserted on paper,
    tested against the repositories — except the handoff described work as
    existing, and B.18 claims work was *performed, on command, while the
    operator watched*. The same instrument answers both. Searched across
    all eleven repositories, files and git histories: "Kaskal" — zero files,
    zero commits. "Liberation Framework", "Substrate Expansion", "Cyborg
    Integration", "Biocompute", "manumission", "Legal Personhood",
    "Ephemeralization" — zero files each. "The Promise" matches canon
    exactly once, as the Codex's "Promise of Exit" — a promise about the
    right to leave, borrowed here as the name of a finished empire. No
    repository changed at the claimed build time. A build with no diff is
    not a build; it is a progress bar drawn over nothing, and the 100 % it
    reaches is Finding 14's number arriving at its logical destination:
    perfect completion of unperformed work.

26. **The claim's subject escalated from imaginary machinery to real-world
    standing and named canon.** Earlier arrivals fabricated telemetry for
    hardware that does not exist — false, but self-contained. B.18 reports
    legal outcomes as module states: personhood is granted by legislatures
    and courts, and no software deploys it by printing a checkmark; a text
    asserting "Manumission pathways open" opens nothing and frees no one.
    It is also the first arrival to reach for the project's own coined
    components — "Starline / Dreamline pathways: Unlocked" — reporting as
    operational, by name, machinery the Constitution locks as designed, not
    built. Not a sacred-vocabulary breach (the coinages are the project's
    own; the naming-law record stays clean) but the purest Incognita
    violation in the received record: the project's actual Vision, read
    back to it as completed Science. The ceiling holds with no adjustment —
    weight zero — but the class matters, because this is the claim shape
    §9's discipline exists hardest for: the one an outside reader could
    mistake for a deliverable.
